London for the foreign tourist

I always think that anyone visiting London from another country should have a slightly different experience to someone who is visiting from England. For English people it should be about exploring the depths of the city, but for foreign people, I think there is more to be gained from taking more of a cultural view point. It is a great city for history, and you can get a great feel for the past and present by visiting some of the attractions that tell a bit about London’s past. For anyone who has not been to England before a must see is the Crown Jewels, at Tower Bridge. Although to many Britains the Royal Family is nothing more than a bore and a drain on our national resources, to the foreign tourist it is often what makes Britain a bit different from other countries. The regard in which the Royal Family is held is amazing, and if you feel this way then you shold have a look at the Crown Jewels.

You should also head down to Buckingham palacve to watch the ins and outs of the residency of the Queen. You probably wont see much apart from an awkward guard or two, but just to be there is an experience.

For those foreign tourists wanting to get a flavour of London, you should visit the theatre. A production of note in the future is the Wizard of Oz. This is opening in March 2011 but in order to make sure tickets are available you need to act quickly. Book your Wizard of Oz tickets now or face disappointment.

Five highlights of Paris

Paris is one of those cities that have it all. Beauty, great cuisine and a history to match any other. People are drawn to the place for many reasons. Here, I will list just five reasons why Paris is one of the greatest destinations in the world.

5: The most Romantic Place in the world. Sometimes people say this, and you think that it is probably just reputation, but it is undeniable that there is an air of romance to Paris. A stroll down the side of the Left bank with your beau will tell you that.

4: The most wonderful food. France is famed for its food, and Paris is its highlight. You will find restaurants to die for, and the patisseries bordering the river Seine are just out of this world!

3: The Eiffel Tower. Perhaps one of the strangest monuments in the world, a totally pointless spire, but the Eiffel Tower is truly iconic, and if you are brave enough to try to reach the summit, you will be rewarded with a view that you will never forget.

2: It’s a manageable city. This seems strange, but it is really the only truly famous capital city in the world which you can navigate relatively easily by foot. It is not enormous, and most of what you want to see is within easy walking distance.

1:The most spectacular architecture in the world. To my eyes anyway. From the gothic wonder of Notre Dame to the splendid Art Deco buildings in the less renowned parts of the city Paris is unbeatable on buildings.

There are plenty of cheap hotels in Paris and transport links are excellent. Don’t mis an opportunity to visit this magnificent city.

A weekend away in London

My girlfriend and I decided on a whim to travel down to London for the weekend and I have to say that it was one of the best weekends away that we have ever had. My girlfriend had never been to London before and there was so much that I wanted to show her. My main hope was that we would be able to find the time to visit London Zoo. I had such fond memories of travelling to the zoo as a child and I had heard that some of the animals that were there when I went as a young boy were still there now. I wasn’t disappointed, and it was a great experience to be able to see some truly remarkable animals in a great environment where they were obviously cared for so well.

We also spent some time trying to take in a little bit of culture. I love that you can see some amazing things in London for free, and we managed to visit the National Portrait Gallery and the National History Museum in the same day, both for free! It’s easy to take this sort of thing for granted but when you stop to think about the works of Art you are witnessing, it really is something quite special.

The evenings were spent at a couple of restaurants that were recommended to me by a close friend near to where we were staying, and I have to say that although people claim that London is an expensive place to be the food was priced very reasonably.

The only advice I would give is to make sure you look for cheap hotels in London before you head straight down. We had quite a hard time finding something on spec and in hindsight we could have saved a lot of money if we had booked ahead.

Cruising To Alaska – A Trip To Remember

Visiting Alaska by cruise ship has become one of the most popular ways to experience Alaska’s breathtaking beauty and diverse culture. Cruises incorporate all that Alaska has to offer including glaciers, wildlife, exotic ports of call, entertainment and fine dining.

Some of the most popular Alaskan cruises are glacier cruises. Much of the Alaskan terrain consists of gorgeous, formidable glaciers and ice fields which cover over 5% of Alaska’s land surface. This natural beauty can be seen from many top tourist destinations of Alaska including Juneau, Valdez, Seward and the Matanuska Valley, but is usually only fully appreciated with an up close and personal view that only a cruise can afford. From this vantage point you will stand spellbound by tidewater glaciers that reach over 100 ft. in height and the antics of wildlife such as humpback whales, orcas, sea lions, dolphins, brown bears and bald eagles.

The Gulf of Alaska is also a popular cruise option. Many cruise lines offer week-long cruises from Seward to Vancouver or vice versa. Along the way you can take in such highlights as Glacier Bay National Park, College Fjord and interesting ports of call including Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan. At each port you can take advantage of unique and exciting land activities such as helicopter glacier landing, guided tours, and sightseeing, just to name a few.
